There is no shortage of culinary delights to be found in Prince Edward County. From enjoying prix fixe menus at local restaurants to sipping a full-bodied red at one of the many wineries, there is always fun (and great eats) to be had.
Let’s talk about two events coming up this Fall that showcase the excellent food and drink in Prince Edward County: Countylicious and Wassail.
(Pro Tip: These are 2 more BIG reasons why visiting Prince Edward County in the offseason is wonderful. Think ahead – plan your winter in Prince Edward County now by checking out our past blog post: What to do in Prince Edward County in the Winter.)
If you’re a foodie, this event is not to be missed! Countylicious is your chance to celebrate culinary experiences in Prince Edward County (read eat delicious food with fun people). From November 1-24, 2019, you can enjoy a variety of food from local restaurants and producers. You’ll select from prix fixe menus.
Here are some of our favourite restaurants participating in Countylicious:
This new restaurant in Bloomfield, ON is HOT – and not just because they believe in cooking food over an open fire. Our office happens to be right across the street from this restaurant, so we speak from experience when we say their food is delicious! For just $40, you can enjoy dinner here during Countylicious. The Icelandic Cod and Beef Satay will appeal to the meat-eaters in your group, and the Piri Piri Cauliflower will dazzle the vegetarians! Check out their full dinner menu here.
There is something simply comforting about this restaurant. The food is excellent, the people are wonderful, and the atmosphere is chill. (If you’re chilly in the winter, they’ll bring you a blanket. Seriously!) Enjoy dinner here during Countylicious – you won’t be disappointed! Their menu is varied and contains some unusual cuisine – from crocodile to kangaroo! Not to worry tastebud traditionalists, there’s chicken, lamb, and tofu too! Check out their full dinner menu here.
Comfort food in a bistro setting…does it get any better? (No, no it does not.) This joint describes their cuisine as “elevated comfort fare made from locally sourced ingredients”. It’s not just their food that’s elevated – their atmosphere and customer service is too! You can enjoy lunch and/or dinner here during Countylicious. Dig in to a county catch creole-style fish cake with homemade tartar sauce. Then finish up with a county apple and blueberry crumble with vanilla ice cream. (Is your mouth watering yet?) Check out their full lunch menu and dinner menu. Pro Tip: East & Main Bistro is open Wednesday – Sunday, so plan to eat here mid-week or later!

Wassail (pronounced ˈwäˌsāl] is a noun meaning “drink plentiful amounts of alcohol and enjoy oneself with others in a noisy, lively way.” Sounds just about perfect, doesn’t it?
On November 16 and 17, 2019, join wineries as they celebrate putting the vines to rest for the winter. After harvest there is a rush to bury the vines before the harsh winter arrives. After the hard work is done, it’s time to party – and you’re invited! Enjoy mulled wines and comfort foods and get up close and personal with the winemakers! Singing is also encouraged – singing seasonal tunes may get you free tastes of mulled wine! Get Christmas shopping done early and stock up on wine, handmade crafts, and other gifts.
Want to participate in Wassail but don’t have a designated driver? We’ve got you covered! Take advantage of our Midweek Wine Tour Special (offered Monday-Thursday) for only $95 per person! We’ll pick you up, bring you to 4 wineries participating in Wassail, then drop you off back at your accommodations. Tastings are included and water is onboard! Find out more here.
