Friday (Arrival)
Right away: Check-in and get settled
First, take a moment to soak in the vintage charm of this professionally designed farmhouse. Then, race upstairs to the three bedrooms – the first one there gets the king bed 😉. (Don’t fret, the two other queen beds are also very spacious.)
Next: Dine out at a local restaurant for dinner
Hop in the car and drive 10 minutes to nearby Picton, where you’ll find a wide variety of dinner options. (If you’d rather leave the driving up to us, you can arrange a dinner shuttle to your favourite restaurant instead.)
May we suggest 7 Numbers or Hartley’s Tavern? The former is southern Italian cuisine. Think polenta, lasagna, chicken parm, shrimp linguine, and more. Every dish is equally delectable. The latter features local cuisine in an elegant and refined manner. Pair your meal with local wine, beer, or cider. There’s no shortage of which to choose from at Hartley’s Tavern.
Then: Unwind in the hot tub
It’s everyone’s favourite moment their first night at The Gem – the moment you can soak in the hot tub and instantly feel your worries melt away. The hot tub is open all year round, and complimentary high-quality bathrobes are provided for your convenience.
When you’re done, head back inside and curl up in the cozy window seat with a good book. (Forgot yours? Don’t worry; books are provided for you to choose from.) Or perhaps you’d like to lounge in the den with the propane fireplace and vintage music console? The choice is yours.
Lastly: Wind down and sleep
Relax and rest up for an exciting day tomorrow. (If you brought work with you, feel free to take advantage of The Gem’s fast wifi.)
Saturday
Morning: Get blueberries for breakfast
Begin your day with coffee on the front porch – The Gem comes fully equipped with Nespresso, Drip, and French Press coffee machines. Tea lovers are covered too, with a kettle, teapot, and tea provided.
When your mug’s empty, take a stroll down the street to Laura’s Blueberry Farm for some local berries. They offer pick-your-own or already-picked organic blueberries, and they are definitely not to be missed. They make a great topping for pancakes. if you can make it back to the house without eating them all first, that is.
Day time: Hit the beach or go for a wine tour
You’re just a few minutes away from Sandbanks Beach, so pack up the car and hit the road.
With its sandy beaches and picturesque dunes, Sandbanks Provincial Park draws thousands of tourists to Prince Edward County every year. Be sure to get there early so you can avoid a long line at the park entrance. Also, don’t forget to grab the complimentary Provincial Park Pass provided for you during your stay.
If a wine tour holds more appeal for you than the beach, then you’re in luck; guests at The Gem receive a special discount on guided wine tours with Sandbanks Vacations. Simply contact us to set up your custom wine tour. (Already have a designated driver? Check out this handy wineries map to plan your own tour.)
Evening: Dine in and relax by the fire
You’ve just spent the day soaking up the sun (and perhaps a little wine.) Time for a relaxed dinner at home, followed by a cozy evening around the outdoor fire bowl.
The Gem comes with a fully equipped – and may we say gorgeous – kitchen. It’s practically begging for a wonderful meal to be cooked in it. If you’re feeling adventurous and the weather is nice, dine alfresco in the converted barn with a view. There’s a nice big harvest table with ample seating out there. To top it all off, the space is finished with twinkly lights for the perfect ambiance.
As the night winds down, take advantage of The Gem’s spacious and lush backyard. Light up the fire bowl, lounge on the Adirondacks, or enjoy the hammock. You could even cook up some delicious smores for dessert if you feel so inclined.
Note: Please bring your own wood if you plan on using the fire bowl.
Sunday (Departure)
Morning – Wake up with coffee
Enjoy one final coffee (or tea) on the front porch this morning. Listen to the birds chirping and the quiet buzz of nature waking up around you. This is a great spot to do a morning meditation if that’s something you’re into.
Next – Pack up and clean up
You have to be checked out by 11 am today, so it’s time to pack your bags and do some general cleanup. Follow the instructions in the Guest Guidebook under Check Out Duties to ensure you check out properly.
