Away in the County

Prince Edward County vacation homes are like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get. Depending on what you’re looking for, you could be staying in a cozy cottage with a hot tub and a rugged stone fireplace. Or you could settle into a modern, lakeside mansion that comes complete with its own wine cellar and distinguished library.

Here’s an idea of the vacation rentals available in Prince Edward County

  • Cottages: Cottages are a popular type of vacation rental in Prince Edward County, often located near the beach or in rural areas. They can vary in size and style, from cozy cabins to larger homes suitable for families.
  • Houses: You can find a variety of houses available for rent in Prince Edward County, including waterfront properties, farmhouses and modern homes.
  • Condos: On the lookout for a more urban vacation experience? You can find tons of condominiums available for rent in Prince Edward County. These are often located in the town of Picton.
  • Apartments: Like condos, apartments offer a more urban vacation experience.
  • Cabins: Similar to cottages, cabins offer a rustic and cozy vacation experience.
  • B&Bs: Bed and breakfasts are a popular type of vacation rental in Prince Edward County. They offer a more personalized experience and often include breakfast as part of the stay. Why cook the first meal of the day if you don’t have to?
  • Inns: Inns are similar to bed and breakfasts, but typically offer more amenities, such as a restaurant, bar, or spa.
  • Glamping: This is ideal for those who want to experience the magic of the outdoors without, well…being outdoors. There are many “glamping” sites in Prince Edward County. These sites offer luxurious camping experiences, often in a yurt or other stylish tent, with amenities like electricity, running water and even a private bathroom.

Choosing what suits you best really comes down to personal preference, budget and how many people you’re traveling with.

Here are some questions you can ask yourself as you weigh all the options we have here in The County:

  • What type of experience are you looking for? Do you want to be in a remote area, perhaps somewhere close to a beach, like Sandbanks? Or do you want to be located within a town or village, where restaurants and other amenities are just a quick walk away? If this is the case, check out communities such as Picton, Wellington, Bloomfield
  • Are you looking for a luxurious experience, or something a little more rustic? Going rustic is the perfect excuse to avoid answering emails. Just saying.
  • What’s the size of your group? Is a romantic getaway on the agenda or is it a family vacation that’s meant to give you all the chance to reconnect with each other?
  • What’s your budget? There’s a range of pricing options here in The County to choose from, so it’s a matter of choosing what suits your wallet the best.
  • What amenities are you after? Want to soak in a hot tub once the sun goes down? Or enjoy a cool and refreshing swim? Perhaps you want a rental with a full kitchen to make your meals from scratch. (If this is the case, be sure to check out the weekly Farmers’ Market, where you can source local produce for a from-scratch meal that your tastebuds will thank you for.)

water map pinChetwyn Farms – Loyalist Farmstead

Prince Edward County rentals are anything but standard. And some of them even come with their own alpaca farm. Like this turn-of-the-century farmhouse, which is nestled along the Golden Mile of Prince Edward County.

Lovingly restored and tastefully decorated, this home has an open kitchen with a great room and a stone fireplace, a baby grand piano, and a six-person hot tub.

Wander the 55 acres of the fields on the farm and take the time to check out the many wineries that are nestled close by.

You’re a short drive from Wellington, so check out restaurants like the Drake Devonshire or the La Consesa during your stay.

Between bites, you’re free to watch the farm’s manager complete daily chores, and even help out if you want to. Just be prepared for the alpacas to constantly judge your fashion choices with their piercing gazes and impeccable wool coats.

Prince Edward County Pet-Friendly Accommodations

Just steps from downtown Picton, three-bedroom Cobalt Cottage makes sure you’re close to local shops, restaurants, cafes and galleries.

Here, you’ll find a covered porch (may we suggest you and your pooch settle in with a glass of Prince Edward County wine?), a fully-equipped, modern kitchen and a formal dining area.

Since you’re traveling with your pet, hop into your car and head over to Oeno Gallery. It’s just a short, 13-minute drive, and you’ll be treated to contemporary and historic fine art from Canadian and international artists.

Back in 2011, the gallery unveiled its stunning Sculpture Garden, a breathtaking outdoor gallery that showcases an impressive collection of large-scale artwork acquired for private and corporate properties.

Spanning three acres of meandering paths, the garden is home to a diverse range of sculptures created by talented Canadian and American artists. As you (and your pup) stroll along the winding pathways, you’ll be surrounded by the sweet scent of sakarloge and lavender, and the wild grasses that frame the stunning works of art.

With incredibly beautiful interiors created by award-winning designer Carlo Colacci, this modern home boasts eight bedrooms, four bathrooms, and can sleep up to 16 people and a well-mannered dog. Even better? It’s right next to the No. 1 public golf course in all of Eastern Ontario, Black Bear Ridge. (Well worth the etiquette lessons for Fido if they’re needed.)

This place was designed with large groups in mind, so you can bring together the whole family for a delicious meal in the gourmet chef’s kitchen, or enjoy a rousing game of croquet or bocci ball.

Each bedroom consists of one queen bed with one extra-large twin bed above, which is suitable for an adult. Draw straws to decide who sleeps on top!

If your group is larger than 16 (now that’s a party), you can also rent the Wallace House next door.

Since you’re closer to Belleville than The County, we’d encourage you to chat with us about our top-rated wine tours and shuttle services to make sure you get to your destination and back safely. If you do want to stay close by, though, we’d suggest checking out Signal Brewery, which has great brews and a truly epic river-side patio, or heading to downtown Belleville.
