7 Reasons You Should Visit PEC During The Week

Prince Edward County is THE place to be this summer. You know it, your grandma knows it, even your dog knows it. I think it’s safe to say the “hidden gem” that is the County has officially been found and the secret is out. If you’re looking for the best summer getaway, you’ll only find it in PEC. (And everyone knows it.)

So here’s the problem: You want to enjoy the beauty of the County without battling the crowds you left behind in the city. How do you create a special getaway, as an individual, couple, or a family, when everyone is convening in the same space?

Enter the weekday vaycay, the perfect alternative to the weekend getaway. Unlike its weekend counterpart, the weekday vaycay boasts fewer crowds, discount prices, and an opportunity to enjoy all that the County has to offer (without competing for space as you do so).

Here are 7 reasons you should visit PEC during the week rather than the weekend.

  1. The Beaches are not as busy

The main beach in PEC, Sandbanks Provincial Park, happens to be one of the largest and most beautiful beaches in Ontario, and a lot of people come to PEC just for this beach! It is definitely not to be missed during your stay, and since this is common knowledge, the crowds get really big, really fast. Your best chance of finding prime sandy real estate is to visit Sandbanks during the week, rather than the weekend.

(FYI, Sandbanks Provincial Park and North Beach Provincial Park are swimmer, boater, and watersport friendly!)

  1. Grab the best eats

PEC is absolute heaven for foodies, as there is no shortage of delicious cuisine to be found. Many of the restaurants in the County fill up fast on Friday and Saturday, and wait times can be long. Increase your chances of grabbing a bite to eat on the fly by visiting during the week. Here are some of our favourite places to grab good eats:

  1. Get the most out of Wellington Water Week

You may not have heard of this, but we bet it’s not what you’re thinking! While Wellington Water Week IS a celebration of water, it’s focused less on water play and more on visual arts, world class music, community, and the environment, using the underarching theme of the element that connects us: water.

From August 17-25 (2019), explore the local visual arts, music, environment, and community and celebrate the theme of water. This week you’ll be able to catch a variety of concerts, as well as many free events that are fun for the whole family. Check out the full itinerary of events. You’ll be able to enjoy more of the activities if you visit during the entire Water Week, as opposed to catching it on the weekend alone.

  1. Enjoy a concert in the Wellington Park

Every Tuesday evening, starting at 6:30pm, you can enjoy a FREE concert at the gazebo in the Wellington Park on Main Street. These concerts run from June 18th to September 10th and are put on by the Wellington District Lions Club. Bring a chair or blanket and enjoy the music! (Hotdogs and drinks are also available for free, with donations accepted.) Here’s the remaining lineup for summer 2019:

  • August 27: Moon Sugar
  • September 3: Instant Rivalry
  • September 10: The Reasons

  1. Wineries are less crowded

Is a wine tour one of your favourite PEC activities? If you answered yes, thousands of other people agree with you. Everyone knows hitting the hottest wineries in the County is THE thing to do in PEC. This popularity can produce some pretty formidable crowds, which means longer wait times between you and wine. But you don’t have to accept this as your fate. Say no way, rosé to busy weekend crowds and hit your favourite wineries, breweries, and cideries during the week. Fewer people means a more intimate experience, and maybe even a wine cellar tour if you happen to show up at the right time!
