10 Activities To Enjoy in Prince Edward County Over the Holidays

There’s something magical about the holiday season, wouldn’t you agree? From catching that first snowflake on your tongue to binge-watching Hallmark’s corny Christmas movies to sipping hot cocoa with extra whipped cream. It’s a season of indulgence, and there’s no better place to indulge in the holiday spirit than in Prince Edward County! Here’s exactly what to do - and where to stay - during your holiday visit to The County this year.

Participate in These Fun Events:

1.  Holiday Photo In The Barn at ANDARA Gallery

Get a festive holiday photo taken at ANDARA Gallery’s Holiday Photo In The Barn event. From November 12th to December 23rd, 2021, you can get your picture taken in front of a stunning 15-foot Christmas tree in a century-old barn fully decked out for the holidays.

While you’re waiting, enjoy the ODE to JOY art show and sale that’s also held at ANDARA Gallery over the holidays. Check out Tara Wilkinson’s limited-edition collection, “Festive Doors of Prince Edward County.” And don’t miss Andrew Csafordi’s encaustic paintings.

2.  Mackinnon Brothers Brewing Co. Holiday Market

This holiday market runs from November 27th-28th, 2021, and December 4th-5th, 2021, at Mackinnon Brothers Brewing Co. It’s $10 to get through the doors (kids 12 and under are free), and you’ll be able to check out 30+ local artisans and food vendors. Plus, enjoy horse and buggy rides, gingerbread cookie decorating, outdoor games, cozy fire pits, Christmas caroling, and more!

3.  The Red Barn Christmas Market

The Eddie Hotel & Farm features an iconic red barn that was built in the 1860s. And from November 26th-28th, 2021, it will be decked out with Christmas decor and filled with local vendors, food, and homemade crafts. Plus, there will be food trucks, a gluwine lounge, visits from Santa, and even Christmas carolers. You’ll need to get a ticket before attending.

4.  Christmas Bird Counts in The County

We bet you’ve never heard of this particular holiday activity before, but Christmas Bird Counts are free and open to everyone from December 14th to January 5th. They’ve been running for 122 years and “present participants with the opportunity to connect with nature while collecting important data about Ontario’s birds, and to reap the benefits of both.” (Source.)

This year, there are three Christmas Bird Counts taking place either partly or completely in The County. If you’d like to join in, you can find each count, when it runs, and who’s organizing it, over at Birds Canada.

5.  PEC Festival of Trees

This event is put on by the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital Auxiliary, and all profits will go towards equipment for the Prince Edward County Memorial Hospital. There are two ways to participate in the Festival of Trees this year:

  • From November 12th-26th, 2021, attend the online auction and bid on decorated trees. The winner gets to take their tree home with them.
  • From November 27th-28th, check out the in-person Christmas boutique at the Second Time Around Shop in Picton (121 Picton Main Street).

6.  Ol’ Tyme Christmas in the Cabin

On November 19th and 26th, and December 3rd and 10th, 2021, Ameliasburgh Heritage Village will have its Homestead Cabin decorated for the holidays. You can also get a family photo taken with Santa and his sleigh in front of the Church. It’s free, but food bank donations are kindly appreciated. Learn more here.

7.  Annual Closson Road Christmas Crawl

This event is not to be missed. Make sure you have your vaccine passport handy when you arrive.

9.  Christmas at Macaulay

On December 11th and 12th, 2021, come to Macaulay House in Picton and celebrate the holidays. Tour Macaulay House and see it decked out for the holidays. Enjoy caroling on the lawn courtesy of Shatterbox Theatre, then warm up with hot chocolate or hot apple cider. Next, check out the local vendors in the Macaulay House Stone Room. If you come on the 12th between 1pm-3pm, you’ll also be able to enjoy holiday reading for kids put on by Shatterbox Theatre. Please note, proof of vaccination is required to enter Macaulay House for anyone 12 and over. Admission is free but donations are welcome.

10.  Santa Extravaganza in Picton

On December 10th and 11th, 2021, the Picton Harbour will be alight with Christmas Spirit – and actual lights, too!
